General Information
The University of Television and Film Munich opened its doors to students in 1967. It provides training that leads to careers in the fields of television and film. The focus lies on the following professions: commissioning television editors, dramaturgs, directors, production managers and producers, and camera people; who are involved, either freelance or as employees of media companies or institutions, in the making of or collaboration on every variety of television or film production. Students also receive an introduction to professions in the fields of scientific film, educational film, film and television criticism, as well as media studies.
The standard period of study is eight semesters. At the end of four semesters, students must pass an intermediate diploma examination. The full course of study ends with a final diploma examination.
The University is a state university supported by the Free State of Bavaria. The Bayerischer Rundfunk (Bavarian public broadcaster), Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (national public broadcaster) and the City of Munich contribute funds, technical equipment and services. Moreover, the University works closely with other companies and institutions, both within and beyond the media city Munich. It cooperates with national and international film schools and is a member of the International Association of Film and Television Schools (CILECT).
