Admission requirements and study guidelines
Admission requirements
Proficiency in German:
To study at the University of Television and Film Munich adequate knowledge of the German language is required.
Students are admitted to the University of Television and Film pursuant to the regulations governing the qualification for studies at institutions of higher education of the Free State of Bavaria (Qualifikationsverordnung), as amended. These stipulate that, in addition to passing an aptitude test, applicants must meet the following requirements:
1) General or (specific) field-restricted Hochschulreife (university entrance qualification)
(Any school-leaving certificates acquired outside Bavaria must be recognized as equivalent.)
Fachhochschulreife (technical college entrance qualification) is not sufficient.
2) Age limits for acceptance to the study program
(as of October 1)
a) Minimum age: 18
b) Maximum age: 30
Exceptions to the above requirements can be made for applicants who demonstrate aptitude and exceptional giftedness by passing the HFF aptitude test, providing applicants can show certification of successfully completed vocational training or of three years (36 months) of successful, relevant professional experience.
Related internships or theoretical work in film or television can be positive criteria for admission preselection, but are not requirements for admission to a degree program.
Study guidelines
Students begin their courses during the winter semester. The regular study program lasts at least eight semesters (standard period of study). The curriculum includes lectures, seminars, practical exercises and training productions – both during the basic course of studies and, after passing an intermediate examination, during the main course of studies.
The degree programs at the University of Television and Film require full-time study. Students complete the required internships during the non-lecture periods. Credit can be given for study semesters, course work and exams completed in other HFF programs or at other universities, providing they were completed in an equivalent course of study. To receive such credit, students must apply in writing to the chairman of the examination committee, enclosing records documenting all work or exams to be credited. Any such recognition is no substitution for passing the admission procedure – in other words, so-called “program-switching” is not permitted.
