Extension Course: Theater, Film and Television Criticism
Head:
Professor Dr. C. Bernd Sucher
In the 1997/98 winter semester, the University of Television and Film launched the extension course Theater, Film and Television Criticism, in cooperation with the Bavarian Theater Academy 'August Everding' in the Prinzregenten Theater.
Admission requirements:
- Qualifying degree (graduate, diploma, bachelor's, master's, doctorate) from a university or art school
- Admission test
The objective of the four-semester extension course is to train the cultural critics of tomorrow, in theory and practice – by offering a more extensive curriculum than journalism schools, universities and colleges, which can only peripherally deal with criticism.
Program structure:
The first two semesters comprise a survey course in theater, film and television criticism, in which students acquire a theoretical foundation.
The second phase (third and fourth semesters) is dedicated to a specialization in either drama criticism, musical theater criticism, or film and television criticism.
Seminars and internships:
Students attend seminars at the Institute for Applied Theater Science of the University of Munich, the University for Television and Film and the University of Music and Theater. Practical exercises familiarize them with the work of a theater, film and television critic.
The instructors and visiting lecturers are renowned theater, film and television reviewers from German-speaking countries.
The program offers internships at the culture desks of national and regional newspapers, with radio and television broadcasters, as well as on film, television and theater productions.
