Der kleine Zalam

In 1933 Walter Christeller, cameraman at the UFA studios in Babelsberg, was forced to leave Berlin and start a new life in Palestine where he worked mainly for the Jewish National fund. 75 years later Walters granddaughter, student at Munich filmschool, searches for the legacy of his life and work in Israel. Walter Christeller was not just an emigrant and pioneer of the Jewish State. He also pursued and documented the regional change with his camera at close range which enables the filmmaker to display a good piece of Israeli history.
"Der kleine Zalam" is a story about the life of a german immigrant in Palestine, but also a very personal review of life in the Middle East today.
