Mixed Use Zone

A fictional provincial town in Lower Bavaria, surrounded by cornfields and shopping malls. After years of
globetrotting rock guitarist Simon returns to his fatherly barnyard. The little dairy farm has not been profitable
since a couple of years. Anna, Simonʼs sister, has to work as a secretary at a law office to secure the living.
Coincidentally with his comeback Simonʼs niece Marie disappears. Enjoyment of reunion is quickly replaced by
uprising concern and distrust.
A simple change of characters suddenly deranges the common way of life within the small rustic society.
A fictional provincial town in Lower Bavaria, surrounded by cornfields and shopping malls. Social life no more
happens at church or the local pub, but at the gas station, the shopping mall and the car dealer.
Anna Kreuzpaintner lives with her father Sepp, her children Daniel and Marie and the Russian German helper at a
small isolated barnyard. The little dairy farm has not been profitable since a couple of years. Anna has to work as
a secretary at a law office to secure the living. Her children do not take any pleasure in farming. Daniel jobs on the
local car dealerʼs establishment and Marie hits puberty hard. Caught in late summerly boredom she is competing
with her friend Chrissi on testing their feminine charms on their environment. Above all both are trying to gain the
reticent Viktorʼs attention.
Suddenly Simon, Annaʼs little brother, returns home after years of globetrotting. He pretends to have returned
because of wanting to see his niece. But since his returning Marie has vanished without a trace.
Simon initially appears coolly and egotistically which not leads to public enjoyment. The delinquent corn yield and
Marieʼs sudden disappearance deny the common admiration, which the comebacker Simon usually receives. His
attempts to make himself useful fail. Also is he estranged with his friends from youth times. He is especially
tangling with police man Bernhard Ortner, whom he used to sneer to in the old days. Distrust sprouts, which leads
to an argument on the reasons of Marieʼs disappearance.
Simon quickly learns, that he no longer can count on his role as the cool guitar hero in his home village.
The film pictures in brief entangled episodes how hurt vanities and built-up aggressions break their way through a
society and erupt on the outsider.
