Podolsk is a small German village in the middle of the soviet steppe. Three sisters were raised between communist schooling and western broadcasts from their fathers radio. One sister decided to support soviet society, the second stayed away from politics and the third revolted. Little did they know about the crimes that were inflicted on their family and the other Germans living in Russia. When they discovered the truth, together they moved 4000 kilometers west to Germany and left the past behind. However, their past decisions continue to impact their relationships today. Through a mix of conversations between the sisters and original footage of Podolsk dating back to the 1970s we are able to follow a families search for acceptance.
