Redlined

Olga and Jiři have been married for 55 years, when Jiři suddenly decides to end his life – out of love, as he says. But the attempt does not come off. Lots of questions come up: How will this go on? What will happen to the relationship between Olga and Jiři? A film about letting go and holding on in old age.
Redlined portrays a 90-year-old Czech couple and reconstructs their path of life closely connected to the history of the border between Germany and the Czech Republic. Dr. Olga and Jiři Simon defied the Nazis and the communists. In 1965 they were invited by the Max-Planck-Institut to the world congress in Munich after Jiři had discovered a refined Polio vaccine. Olga and Jiři took the opportunity and escaped to Munich where they became firmly established as scientists in post-war Germany. Their witty narrations combined with news reports form a poetic netting of retrospection and presence, of political and personal affairs.
