This film is an answer to a letter that had been left unanswered for the past eight years. My mother had written me that letter when I moved out from our apartment in Cairo to live in the student dorms in Munich. Why didn’t I reply for such a long time? How does Cairo impact me - a filmmaker living on the other side of the Mediterranean? How did the city in which my mother remains change? How does Cairo affect her and why do I find it so difficult to understand those transformations.
